Few weeks ago, mommies were invited by the Nido to launch the new look of their brand. Being a Nido kid myself, during our growing years, I have seen how the brand evolved into what it is now.

We know time has changed and parents now, including me, have become more aware of the proper nutrition our children needs. Every mom always spend good number of minutes checking the ingredients of each food item we buy as well as its nutritional content.

NIDO PROTECTUS 3+ now reinforces the need for nutritional benefits of growing children thus made it simple for mommies and encourages them to “always check the label”. I guess this mantra goes for all the food we buy for our kids including us adults. Now that their new look has become more simpler and more informative. Each box contains the DHA, PREBIO 3, Iron, Zinc, and other essential vitamins and minerals that help support our children’s immunity, growth and development. It also contains a different strain of Lactobacillus rhamnosus that helps supports digestive defenses.

The launch of the new look of Nido PROTECTUS continous to remind us parents that we should always CHECK THE LABEL in all the food we buy and give our children. In leui with this, they have released a jingle headlined by Sarah Lahbati and her son Zion. Watch the video below.

Take a day off and make it a truly positive bonding experience with your kids!
On November 29, 2016, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Save the Children will turn Rizal Park into a creative playground for parents, teachers and guardians to enjoy happy moments with children. Entitled #WeChoosePositive, this family festival will include a colorful array of activities, including a parade, workshops taught by PETA Artist-Teachers and storytelling sessions featuring Lola Basyang and Batang Lampara winners.

PARADE

Catch, or better yet, join the parade from Museo Pambata to Rizal Park with ‘Higantes’, lion dancers and marching band as we color the route with our declaration of support for childhood without violence. The parade begins at 2pm.

Parents and teachers, if you haven’t had time to visit the Museo Pambata, now is the time to see this museum for children before joining the parade to Luneta.
All these wonderful activities will begin at 2pm!

WORKSHOPS

Do not be mere spectators as your children explore their artistic skills. Be with them. Join the PUPPETRY AND VISUAL ARTS WORKSHOP. Make this an opportunity to discover more about how your children think and to listen to what they could not say in words but could probably say through drawings or puppets. Or participate in the MUSIC AND RHYTHM WORKSHOP and make them ‘feel the love’ as you sing and clap your hands together to your own beats. If your children have always wanted to take a PETA workshop, this will be like a sampler for them as PETA Artist-Teachers will facilitate.

PLAY AREA

Play with mimes. Color art sheets. Fold papers and turn them into animated objects through the Japanese art of origami.
Listen to music with upcoming OPM and PhilPOP artists or listen to Lola Basyang and other children tell stories.

Sit back and relax to watch children films and videos from different parts of the globe.

Have a picnic at the park.
The choices are endless so you will always have something to do and enjoy.

GRAND CONCERT OF MUSIC AND PERFORMANCES

At 5pm, join us at the Luneta Open Air Auditorium and watch two short plays that drive the truth on the effects of corporal punishment. ADOBO MONOLOGUE, a one-act play that follows a boy passionately cooking the Filipino favorite adobo and slowly reveals how his late father would often beat them up as children. Written by Jason Barcial and directed by Dudz Terraña, the monologue is bound to make you laugh and leave a pang in your heart at the same time.

One of the most lauded plays in the last Virgin Lab Fest, Dominique Beatrice La Victoria’s ANG BATA SA DRUM, also under the direction of Dudz Terraña, will be featured as well. Set in a home in Northern Mindanao, the play follows an after-school conversation between two siblings, one of which is literally placed inside a drum as punishment. If you weren’t able to see the play during its run, this is your chance to see it for free.

Mr. Noel Cabangon will also share the stage with his son, Gab Cabangon, and his band, Kaleidoscope Eyes. This will all be punctuated with a grand fireworks display. Let’s end the day with the commitment for the more positive parenting choice of childhood without violence and a spectacular display of colors in the sky.

Yes, it’s never easy to become parents. Sometimes, it’s more convenient to choose the traditional but our world has changed and it’s about time we too look for alternative choices in raising our children. We do not know of any responsible parent who would not want their children to grow up as kind and loving individuals. But getting there is quite tricky. And the methods that we use are critical. Do we really want them to fear us? Do we want to let them grow up in an environment where violence is acceptable? It’s all about choices! And on November 29, 2016, let’s choose to take the first step to making memorable experiences that they will cherish when they are older with the young ones as #WeChoosePositive!

ADMISSION IS FREE for all activities. However, visual arts and music workshops have limited slots so we advice you to register in advance by calling Riz Ponti at 0915-67876053 or visiting the DUYAN or PETA Theater Center pages on Facebook and sending us a message with your name, contact information, your workshop of choice and the age of your kids.

This event is also made possible with the support of PhilPOP Foundation and OPM.
The Fight Against Child Malnutrition Continues with United for Healthier Kids

The fight against child malnutrition continues as Nestlé Philippines kicks off the third year of United for Healthier Kids (U4HK), an advocacy aimed at creating public awareness and action on malnutrition among elementary schoolkids to give them a better future.

Initiated by Nestlé Philippines along with private and public sector partners, U4HK continues to provide nutritional education to parents, teachers, and communities to increase involvement in adapting healthier eating habits for the family.

“Cultivating healthy eating habits among kids is a global priority by Nestlé. In the Philippines, U4HK aims to help broaden Filipino parents and millennials’ awareness about the prevalence of child malnutrition, and the need to provide healthy everyday meals to Filipino children even with a limited budget.  The advocacy seeks to work with likeminded organizations and parents to develop creative ways to share, donate and volunteer,” said Paolo Mercado, Nestlé Philippines’ Senior Vice President for Communication, Marketing, and Innovation.

The 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted by FNRI in 2013 reveals that 29.1% of children from ages 5 to 10 are undernourished. While this is a decrease from 2011 figures (32%), the number of malnourished children remains high and warrants immediate action. The research further shows that the prevalence of malnutrition is caused by inadequate intake of food, with more than half of the local households failing to meet the daily nutrient and energy requirements. All these set against the context of faster population growth, which further exacerbates the shortage of resources and poses a threat on the supply of food and on the nutritional status of households in the Philippines.

“The real measure of development is how a country takes care of its children. U4HK represents the fundamental principle that all children have a right to be properly nourished to be able to reach their full potential. The responsibility falls on all Filipinos who want to make a difference in helping raise a healthier generation of children,” shared Mr. Mercado.

When my youngest turned three months, his distinct baby smell vanished. You know the best smell there is are baby's right? I'm sure mommies will agree with me on this.  So I thought, I would just use products which will somehow give him distinct smell and bring back those baby smell of his just like his ate which I enjoyed until she was two years old. But no, he is really different. So I had to accept that fact.

When I joined a mommy group, they were raving about this body wash which they claim to have long lasting scent and smells really good. Well, if most of the mommies has good claims about it, I know I must try it too. So I ordered it from the groupbuy and got it after weeks and immediately tried it. Lo and behold, what most of the mommies claims were true!

So let me tell five reasons why you should give this product a try.

1. Local Product. I am a supporter of local products and anything that is made by WAHMs, I strongly support them. In order for our economic to grow, we need to support our local industry.

2. All-Natural. The ingredients are listed in the label and you can see transparency on what they use. My three kids are using it and it didn't cause any allergic reaction to them and mine as well.

3. Long Lasting Scent. The kids sweats a lot and that means, they are also prone to bacteria which may cause body odor. But everytime we use this, the scent lasts all day long and they don't smell bad at the end of the day. It doesn't have a strong smell but a hint of Lemongrass and all other natural ingredients of it.

4. A little goes a long way. We have this in 500ml packaging and my three kids share the same bottle. They take a bath twice a day and my youngest almost three times a day but one bottle lasts us three months of use. That is really a long way considering that all my three kids uses it.

What I don't like about it? I hope they would come up with a waterproof label that texts can still be read despite getting wet.

Will I recommend this? Need I say more?

This is available online from their Facebook page: Coco Haven, and you can buy them at 9 Months and Beyond.

Have you tried this? Let me know your thoughts on the comments down below.

Producing safe food should be the ultimate goal of any agri-food system enterprise. By the time the meat reaches the consumer’s kitchen, they should be assured of the many safety measures taken by these companies to deliver fresh and quality meat. Big brand names are not enough to guarantee the viability of the meat we purchase.

The problem lies with the company’s delivery system. Most companies contract third parties to deliver freshly slaughtered meat with no proper monitoring systems on the trucks' temperature and travel time. It is common knowledge that some of these contractors turn off the truck’s refrigeration system during travel to lessen fuel costs. Proper handling of products during delivery also plays a key role in maintaining quality. Dropping of products directly to the floor, or carrying carcasses on the bare backs of handlers are common practices, which compromise the product.

The meat supplier’s delivery system is usually where it falls short. Meat producers may have the best plants with state of the art facilities but if they have a poor delivery system, the whole process to keep the quality of the meat is compromised.

A local producer that has gained the growing trust of Filipino meat consumers is RDFFeed, Livestock & Foods, Inc. (RDFFLFI) has introduced a unique cold chain process to ensure the quality of meat they sell. From the slaughterhouse or dressing plants to dispatching to the delivery of animal protein, RDF guarantees its freshness.

Livestock and poultry are prepared differently at the start of the cold chain process.

For pork, the cold chain process starts in the slaughterhouse where carcasses are placed in a refrigerated 10-wheeler truck that transfers carcass to the central depot. This process cools down the internal temperature of hot carcasses. At the central depot, the internal temperature of the carcasses reaches 36 to 39 degree Celsius. It will then be stored in the holding room with the room temperature of -10 to -15 degrees Celsius to cool down the carcass internal temperature to 7 degrees Celsius below before cutting.
The holding room is precooled an hour prior to the arrival of the carcasses. After pre-washing and sanitizing using chlorinated water at 0 to 3 degree Celsius, carcasses are transferred to the pre-cooled holding room and stored for 14 to 16 hours or until it reaches an internal temperature of less than 7 degree Celsius. The carcasses are then sent to the fabrication area, cooled at 10 to 15 degree Celsius, for primal cutting.

For chicken, the cold chain process starts in the dressing plant. Dressed chickens are passed through two chilling vat washers to sanitize the carcasses and cool the chicken internal temperature down to 4 degrees Celsius. The first chilling vat has chlorinated chilled water with a temperature of 8 to 12 degrees Celsius. The second vat has chlorinated water cooled to 0 to 3 degrees Celsius. Chilled dressed chicken will then be placed in crates lined with plastic and filled with crushed ice.

For beef, the holding room is pro-cooled an hour before the arrival of the carcasses. After pre-washing and sanitizing with chlorinated water at 0 to 3 degrees Celsius, the carcasses are transferred to the pre-cooled holding room.
After the initial process, all items are then stored in a freezer. Warehousemen will then prepare the orders from each store, all done under a room temperature of 10 degrees. Ordered items will then be stored in the anteroom, cooled to 10 degrees Celsius. An assigned personnel regularly monitors the temperature of all products in the storage area. Proper storing of products in crates and proper spacing per crate is strictly monitored to ensure that there is a balanced cool airflow inside the room.

During the dispatching process, items are checked by the dispatcher, drivers and crew to make sure that items declared on the document have the same weight as that of the actual product. This process happens in a temperature-controlled room, pre-cooled prior to the actual dispatch.
Prior to loading, trucks are pre-cooled up to 4 degree Celsius. Products are then carefully transferred to the trucks. During the trip, the temperature of the truck’s refrigeration is monitored through a GPS system with random checks by the staff during the entire trip.

When the products reach the retail outlets, stocks are placed in a 6-door storage chiller freezer, while items for selling are displayed in 3-door freezers to maintain the cold chain process.

RDF facilities from production to delivery and retail outlets are all owned and operated by the company. Customers can be assured that RDF has control in every part of the cold chain process. RDF has also Quality Assurance field representatives to regularly check the products sold in the stores.

The cold chain process is very important for consumers to ensure their safety when buying meat products. Perishable goods are temperature sensitive, any interruption in the process will greatly affect the quality of the product. The cold chain process reaffirms RDF’s commitment to the consumers of bringing safe and quality food to their tables.
Busy is a worn out word for all of the mommies I know. For the past few months, I was totally swamped with too much life events, mother duties and all other things that I have totally neglected my online nook.

My youngest son just turned one year old and I already made up my mind that I would not to throw him a party because I always dread “the” moment where I have to beg for my guests to attend to my events. But sarcasm aside, I know how busy we are in this day of our lives. Everyone else is making ends meet plus all that life events in theirs as well. But to the last minute, I decided otherwise. After all, he is already my youngest and there will no longer be more Christenings and first birthdays. It was barely a month to prepare and I am thankful for the suppliers, my family and our friends for all the help.

Since we decided that the party would be Dinosaur theme, I had to look for suppliers, which will make it possible. Mind you, looking for suppliers was already dreadful considering the time frame I have. But since, I was really eyeing for simple party (one that doesn’t throw too much decors afterwards), this was the biggest challenge. I have contacted a few but we cannot make a common conformity, sadly. Thankfully, my cousin volunteered to help design the whole restaurant since the party was held in a Chinese restaurant so I was quite relieved. I gave her my peg and purchased all the necessary décor I wanted. What I really like with my party was all decors shouldn’t be thrown away and anything that would add up to the piled garbage.

The cake supplier, which I got from our mommy group, was also accommodating to all my queries and requests. Again, if you want something from your event, contact her at Sweet Indulgence by Rika. She makes the most delicious cakes ever! Look how our cake turned out?

The super mommies behind the cake and the party. :)
The main reason why I decided to throw a party for the youngest right now is also for my two kids who I know will appreciate what really a birthday party is. So I hired a magician/bubble show, Ymmagicph, which I got from the famous vlogger, Anne Clutz, if you do not know her, you are living under the rock!!! HAHA. Anyway, I like how professional their staff is. They are very prompt when it comes to call time. One thing that the kids and kids at heart enjoyed a lot? The surprise games as well as their magic tricks! It was just FUN! I will definitely get their services in the near future and recommend them to all of you who are throwing an event soon. You need to hire them.

@ymmagicph
