Once upon a time, some few years back, I had sort of shoe addiction. Every pay day, I see to it to buy at least a pair of shoes which became a habit until I have no more space in my extended shoe rack. This addiction to shoes went on and stopped when I got pregnant with my first-born.

Most of my shoes then were style over comfort and style over functionality. See how impulsive I was back then? My shoe addiction was more of stress buster for me and I was this heels type of person; it makes me feel sexy strutting a pair and rather than seeing the functionality of it.

When I got pregnant, I realized that my feet have to be more confortable when I exercise. That was when the search for the comfiest pair of shoes started. It went on and on.

This motherhood has really challenged the personal style in me having to balance the comfort over style with whatever I wear, because you know, I am still a woman. I too, need to look fabulous to say the least. Would it be nice if these shoesies can be folded and kept inside your bag and change shoes whenever there is a need for mommy time aka running-after-your-toddler or feet-are-tired-of-walking? Yes? Sure can do because you can’t have a broken ankle always for wearing heels and running after your tots.

Without further ado, let me share with you my latest discovery. Shoes that are proudly Philippine made, foldable, comfortable and is available in all sort of style--from sandals, flats, brogues and even boots! Need I say more?

You can feast your eyes with the style I specifically choose from their site or my personal picks. Here are they:

If your baby was born prematurely, you greet the day of discharge with anxiety as the newest member of your family walks away from the safety and security of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). But with the wrong medical equipment, the risks at home pale in comparison to the dangers inside the hospital.

According to the Journal of Perinatology, a premature baby hooked up to multiple plasticizers could be exposed to over 16 kilograms ofdiethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP). This exposure is 4,000 to 160,000 times higher than what is deemed to be safe.

“Premature babies require a lot of specialized care,” explaineIf your baby was born prematurely, you greet the day of discharge with anxiety as the newest member of your family walks away from the safety and security of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This exposure is 4,000 to 160,000 times higher than what is deemed to be safe.
d Julian Nair, Managing Director of B. Braun Medical Supplies, Inc. “Parents need to be made aware of the dangers of DEHP, because the threat is real.”

DEHP is one of the first six compounds that the European Union (EU) is phasing out under its Registration, Evaluation, Authorization& Restoration of Chemical Substances (REACH) program. Paris is set to ban it from medical equipment this year.

In 2011, the Food and Drug Administration reported cases of DEHP in food and beverage products that were imported to the Philippines. These products were consequently pulled out from the groceries due to their health hazards.

Be safe, be DEHP-free

From grocery bags to food containers, Filipinos are urged to use DEHP-free items. For expecting parents, this is even more important because their newborns deserve the safest and best care possible.

“When looking at everyday items, we take a lot of things for granted. But these details shouldn’t be taken lightly nor overlooked, because they could put our health at risk,” said Nair.

B. Braun, a leading manufacturer of healthcare solutions, uses an alternative compound to create its products. “We use DEHT (Diethyhexyl terephthalate) instead of DEHP,” said Nair.

B. Braun uses DEHT as a substitute to DEHP in all its healthcare products, including plastic cannulas and intravenous bags designed for nutritional support and blood transfusion.

He concluded, “Product innovation will always be our driving force in improving people’s lives. For B. Braun, patient safety always comes first—and this has been our trademark for the last 17 decades.”

If you were like me who values every single minute of time, you would probably search for places where you can celebrate a memorable event in our lives. This love month, it is best to plan where to take our loved ones without the fuzz.

What better than finding that one person (friend, lover, confidant) who loves food like you do, to accompany you for that perfect dessert, dinner and drinks this Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s day is the biggest day for dining out, trumping popular nights out such as New Years. The highest traffic day [on Zomato] on Valentine’s day is 61% higher than any other day in the year.

Across the world we also found that different timings work well for people to meet on Valentine’s. Couples in most places (Delhi, Manila, Dubai, Auckland and London) prefer to go for an evening meal or dinner on Valentine's except for Johannesburg where lunchtime traffic shows a spike.

Did you know that women search for more romantic places to dine at as compared to men on Valentine’s day? Women do tend to like Valentine’s day, at least a little bit more than men. Quite on the contrary to what many people would assume, women were found to be much more active on our Valentine's day special collection - female users comprising 61% of the total visits to this collection during the Valentine’s week.

In most cases, women users dominated the male user base in Valentine’s special collection too. Trends also show that women, on the average, viewed restaurants priced 32% higher than those looked up by the male user base. Love, it turns out, doesn't just require warmer hearts. It requires deeper pockets too.

So, this love month, invest in people who will feed you as much goodness as you do them. If you plan to take them to the restaurant of your fancy, go visit Zomato and see what the foodies out there has to say about their experience.

Do you know what Kim Chiu, Arnel Pineda and Michael Christian Martinez have in common? They all have Asthma yet have accomplished so much in their respective fields. Do you know of a friend, loved one or relative who are winning against asthma as well? Do you want them recognized as winners against asthma just like Kim, Arnel and Christian?

GSK will launch the Search for Winners Against Asthma 2015.  The campaign aims to choose and recognize 10 young asthmatic achievers from different walks of life.

The advocacy likewise introduces Olympic figure skater Michael Christian Martinez as the new face ofthe campaign. Martinez, an asthmatic, began experiencing asthmatic bronchitis when he was just two months old.

He recalls being in the hospital frequently and says the cold rink actually helped improve his health. Year after year my health keeps improving, so my mother fully supported me to continue skating saying it's better to spend themoney on skating than in the hospital.

The program is a nationwide search for young asthmatic achievers aged 30 years and younger who are outstanding in their respective fields despite having asthma and inspire asthma sufferers that they, too, can win against asthma.

Therationale for the target age group is driven by thefact that asthma is one of the most important chronic disease during childhood causing substantial morbidity1Uncontrolled asthma is associated with a reduced lung function, impaired performance in physical exercise, and impaired quality olife.  More severe asthma leads to more frequent school absenteeism which may negatively affect an individual’s level of education and, possibly, choice of career5People within this age group are in theprocess of developing the necessaryknowledge and skills that will enable them toachievtheir goals in life and asthma should not deter them from realizing their full potential. Thus it inecessary at this early stage to raise their awareness on asthma and how they can win against it.

Asthma can be a serious condition but it can be controlled. Access to doctors and treatment has been shown to significantly decrease asthma deaths and hospitalizations.8 People with asthma can lead normal and active lives. They can even excel.

WIN AGAINST ASTHM

TODAY

In February 2014, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) launched Win Against Asthma Today -- an integrated advocacy  campaign  aimed  at  increasing  awareness  and  amplify  existing  efforts  to  spread information about asthma and howit can be managed.

The campaign also encourages patients to consult their doctors and discuss the best way to manage their asthma.

A lot of asthma patients do not realise that they are settling by accepting as normal thelifestyle restrictions resulting from uncontrolled asthma. Patients unnecessarily accept symptoms, assuming that frequent symptoms, exacerbations and lifestyle limitations are an inevitable consequence of having asthma. They may feel that although current treatments can alleviate their asthma symptoms, they just need to accept and bear that it normally happens.   This is where the partnership and constant consult with their doctors become very important.

To prove that the disease should not be a deterrent from living ones life tothe fullest, real asthma patients were invited to provide testimonies of their experiences and how won against the illness. Celebrity asthmatics, Kim Chiu and Arnel Pineda became the featured ambassadors for the first wave of the campaign.

As more asthma patients become aware that they can win against asthma just like Kim and Arnel, thecampaign aims to strengthen its pool ofambassadors to continuously inspire more patients to take control of their asthma.
