If there is one thing I wanted for the my kids is to have the best in life. That includes providing them what they need and making them healthy meals. My main goal before I had my eldest was to make my children eat healthy.

In promoting healthy eating habits, Beko, the Official Partner of the Everyday, launches its Eat Like A Pro advocacy in the Philippines. The campaign aims to help parents feed their children healthier food. This effort is in support of the company's current global initiative os inspiring and educating families, especially the young ones, on the importance of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

To help eliminate poor eating habits, Beko listed some of the benefits of encouraging your child to #EatLikeAPro.

Boosts Immune System. Fruits and vegetables offer different vitamins and minerals so it is important for your children to have a complete meal with variety of it so they could get all the nutrients they need to boost their immune system. Tomatoes, carrots, citrus fruits , berries and dark green leafy vegetables, are abundant in immunity-boosting phytonutrients which help the body create more white blood cells responsible in warding off infection and illness.

Fewer calories compared to processed or fast foods. Replacing unhealthy sugary snacks and fat-laden foods with fruits and vegetables can help reduce the risk of obesity among children. It is important to develop the kids' healthy eating habits by making their favorite dishes healthier.

Helps improve academic performance. Kids with imbalanced nutrition are more likely to perform poorly in school. Failing to get the required amount of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients for health could lead to focus loss, fatigue, and a loss of concentration. Journal of School Health suggests that good nutrition impact's children's academic performance by identifying specific dietary factors. Particularly, students with an increased fruit and vegetable intake and lower caloric intake of fat were significantly less likely to fail a literacy assessment.

Mr. Dyeun Za of BEKO
Fruits and vegetables are important part of a well-balanced diet. However, a report recently released by (FNRI) Food Nutrition Research Institute revealed that Filipinos' intake of fruits and vegetable is declining while their consumption of meat and eggs in increasing. Kids are among those who are most affected by these habits, especially that they are passed on to them.

To jumpstart their advocacy, Beko is set to conducts Eat Like A Pro: The Cook-Off, a contest for a parent-child tandem, which will show how they can work together in preparing delicious, budget-friendly, and healthy meals for the whole family.

Participants should bring heir preferred healthy dish, which will be tried by the designated judges who will select the final 8 tandems. They will be required to bring the dish recipe together with the cooking procedure.

The eat Like A Pro champion will be determined via cook-off which will happen on August 31, 2018 from 10am to 7:30 pm at SM Southmall Activity Center.

Global smartphone brand Vivo has been known for its high-technology innovations that have wowed the world several times over. But it has also been a pioneer of various consumer-centric smartphone designs.

Starting August 20, the fastest growing smartphone brand has teased tech savvy followers with a series of mysterious videos posted on its social media pages. The latest was a video of the moon with its shape emphasized by a curved line, a hint of the look of the next flagship smartphone.

“The galaxies coalesced. Prepare for something greater. #GoBeyond,” Vivo wrote in its latest post.

For its latest smartphone releases, Vivo has pushed the boundaries of the screens based on various studies and insights on what its consumers want.

In 2017, Vivo released the V7+, which has a 5.99-inch AllScreen Display that offers a wider visual experience without compromising a comfortable grip. This gives those on the go a chance to enjoy a bigger screen for gaming, reading, or watching videos.

Vivo followed up the V7+ with the release of the V9 in 2018. It was their first flagship smartphone for the year with the notch. The V9 features the new 19:9 FullView™ Display that has a massive 90% screen-to-body ratio that gives users a wider look into the digital world. The Vivo V9 may be as compact as the 5.5-inch phone, but it was able to attain a 6.3-inch screen.

Halfway through the year, Vivo released the Vivo X21, its first X-series smartphone in the Philippines. It still has a the iconic 19:9 FullView™ Display. But it has a bigger screen-to-body ratio of 90.3% to provide a more impactful visual experience for gamers and video hoarders.

But Vivo was able to get closer to its target when the Vivo NEX was released in some markets in June. The NEX introduces the Ultra FullView™ Display experience with a whopping 91.24% screen-to-body ratio. Vivo was able to achieve this by pioneering the 8-megapixel Elevating Front Camera that hides in the body when not in use. It also introduces the Screen SoundCasting Technology that replaces the traditional earpiece speaker entirely and cutting the bezel size.

With these releases, Vivo has proven that the window to the digital world has no limits. What barriers will the brand break next? #

In my seven years of being a mom, I have learned so many things about parenting and still being challenged by it. In those years, I had three beautiful children, each exudes different personality. Even though I had to deal with three unique individuals everyday, one thing is certain, they all came from one uterus and that means they have to follow whatever I say.

Before I had my eldest, I read so many articles about parenting, joined parenting forums, bought parenting magazines and even talked to friends who already have children. But guess what? A few of those only applied to my children. I guess the best teacher is still our experiences.

The most difficult question of each parent I know is, how do we really get to make our children eat healthy food? But first,  let us ask ourself this question, do we eat healthily? If not, then let us not waste our time doing it because everything starts from us--parents.

So how do we end this mealtime drama?

  • BE AN EXAMPLE. This is the most effortless way of doing it. If the kids feel like it is like a normal thing in the family, then they will do it without so much drama.

  • CREATE A HABIT. We have to see tot it to at least serve them vegetable or fruits every meal and offer them fruits as snacks instead of processed food everyday. What the kids need is consistency in their everyday routine.

  • EAT HAPPILY. Let's admit it, not all food looks pleasing to our palette. So no matter how the food looks like, it is best that you have positive outlook and be happy when you are eating. That way, the kids would be encouraged to eat more and eat heartily.

  • BE CREATIVE. This is for those mommies who have extra time to make food in a fun way. We can create their favorite animals into their food so it would look enticing to them.

  • INVOLVE THEM. This one is the most challenging yet effective fail-proof tip that I could share. I was able to make by picky eater eat banana by involving him in making banana ice candy last summer. They will have this sense of accomplishment in what they do thus making them eat what they prepared.

  • REWARD/CHEAT DAY. This will serve as a reward for the kids to look forward to each time they finish their food. Also, giving them a little candy or few chips every two weeks will not hurt them too. This is just to let them know the different taste of each food too. You, as a parent should let them know that everything should be in moderation. But, I did this to my kids when they were already old enough to understand what are good and bad foods.

  • COMPLIMENT. This is the most important thing to do each time your kids finishes their food. This serves as the best motivation for them.

I am sharing you these tips that worked with my three kids. You can tweak on these tips for as long as you like because as I have said, one might work for you and some won't. Our children is unique in every way so let us respect that.

As an expectant mom, you want the best for your baby. That is why you do everything you can to ensure your baby’s health. But did you know that you could do a lot of things that can help give your baby a bright tomorrow?

While your child is yet to be born, your pregnancy is a crucial time in his or her life. In fact, the World Health Organization says that the first 1000 days of your baby’s life, starting with the 270 days of pregnancy and first two years of a child’s life, is an optimum period to building a strong foundation for their health, growth, and ability to learn in the future.

Take these three simple steps to help promote proper brain growth and development of your baby while in the womb.

Stay fit and active

Exercising during pregnancy may not only improve your health but also, the brain development of your baby. The University of Montreal conducted a study where 18 expectant moms and their babies found out that after 10 days of exercising, their unborn children have a faster brain development.

This finding also suggests that being physically active during pregnancy can help increase your body’s blood flow, which can stimulate your baby’s overall development.

Talk to your baby

It may seem like a silly thing to do but, talking to your unborn child can help create and establish a bond between you and your baby. In a 2013 study by Eino Partanen, et al., expectant women were given a recording that they will play towards the end of their pregnancy, which included a made-up word. The babies who heard the recording most frequently had the strongest response, suggesting that language learning begins in the womb.

Playing music is also beneficial to your baby since it helps trigger happy chemicals like serotonin, an important neuromodulator of brain development and the structure and function of neuronal circuits. These chemicals also encourage your baby to feel calm and even increase concentration power.

Eat healthily

Every food you eat during pregnancy has a direct effect on your baby. Take this as an opportunity to eat healthy meals that will help with your baby’s growth and development.

There are certain foods that have been proven to effectively help your baby’s memory and ability to learn. For example, a study led by a researcher from Cornell University found that expectant moms who consumed nearly twice the recommended amount of choline each day during their last trimester gave birth to babies who showed better brain function.

Similarly, consuming foods rich in DHA, Folic Acid, and Iodine, are essential for a healthy brain development.

It is also critical to provide your baby with the nutrients that will support your baby’s brain development. In addition to following a healthy diet, you also need a maternal milk to supplement you and your baby with essential nutrients.

ProMama® is a delicious tasting nutritional milk drink, scientifically formulated with key nutrients designed to support you during preconception, pregnancy, and lactation. It is rich in brain-building nutrients such as DHA, Folic Acid, Choline, and Iodine. Proper growth and development early on can lead to better health outcomes later in life.

Caring for yourself is essential during pregnancy since it supports all parts of your child’s brain growth and development. Creating a strong foundation built on healthy environment and diet can ensure that your baby will have a bright tomorrow.
From the Nestokid Grow Happy Kids event I attended last month, there was a talk from Ms. Rizason G.T. Ng, a cild psychologist form Ateneo Bulatao Center where she discussed ten factors how to grow happy kids. These factors were from her kids and also from real life experiences.

As a child, I have a lot of questions growing up that made me compare my life to my friends. My parents were strict but my dad was unreasonable. He doesn't accept any valid points which is why at some point in my life I have instilled in my mind not to be the parent that he is. And while listening to the talk, I began to realize that, this was really what he lacked as a parent.

In general, all we need to do is to value life. In order to do that, we must respect each and everyone including our children. No matter how young they are, we must value their choices because in return, we also get respected. That is how she generally sums up having happy children. So how do we really grow happy kids?

1. Validate the child. We should show the children that they are important in our family and that they have roles to portray. In this way, they know that their existence serves a purpose.

2. Encourage. Do you know the feeling of having one-sided talk? I do. So instead of shoving your thoughts/ideas to our kids, it is better to let them express their thoughts, encourage them to voice out their opinions and feelings. We also need to encourage them about their interests instead of telling them their ideas are worthless because it makes a lot of difference in their confidence as a person.

3. Interact. In this age of social media, most of the parents are in their mobile phones and gadgets. But what our children really needs is our physical self. As parents we must show interest in their lives  so that they will turn to us instead of other people. We need to give them our time more than anything else.

4. Involvement. Our children needs to feel they belong to a family. The simplest way of doing it is involving them in house chores. As what I always say. "The family that does chores together, stays together." It somehow gives them that sense of accomplishment that they did something for the whole family and took part in the house.

5. Rituals/Family Practices. We need to develop something that will make them remember what we bond of. It doesn't necessarily mean expensive but something that is a common ground where the family and kids can interact with each other. It may be barbeque nights on a weekend, movie at home at weekend, or just simply walking the dog at the park is enough.

6. Organize. This is a continuous work in progress in our family. I try to be organized as much as I can at home because it really affects the well being of kids. If you are cluttered, everything else follows. Let us teach the children how to clean up so that when they are on their own, they will know how to organize their life in general.

7. Express/Language of Love. Please know that every person if different and they also differ in love languages. As parents, we also need to accept the uniqueness of our children as well as their love languages. One child loves quality time while one loves giving gifts. It really varies even though they came from same uterus.

8. Perspective/Child's Point of View. Let us stop being all about ourself and as a parent. Sometimes we need to fill in their shoes in order to understand them. Let us not expect that a two year can function like a 15 year old kid. And a 5 year old kid cannot make sound judgements like a 16 year old. So we have o fit in their shoes as to their "whys" in order for us to address them properly.

9. Presence. Our kids doesn't need expensive presents on special occasions. They don't need to be tagged on our photos on Facebook but what they really need is our precious time. We need to be physically present in almost all their special occasions so they will know they are loved.

10. Self-Care. This goes by the saying, "we cannot give others what we don't have." As a parent, we tend to overdo everything but once we get burn outs, we tend to be crazy sometimes. As an effect, we tend to scold the children most of the time because we haven't pressed that reset  button yet. So once in a while, we need to got out at least to breathe fresh air away from the kids. This is just a way of letting out the steam from being at the top of our toes.
