When I turned 30, I got more concerned about my skin. I thought I wasn't getting any younger, and I should act on it before it's too late. Lucky though, I didn't have acne-prone skin. But what concerns me is the dark spots that develop here and there. I thought applying topical creams and sunscreens was enough to keep my skin in its best shape. Let me share how I keep my skin healthy and glow within.


  1. Keep yourself hydrated. For our body to function well, we must treat it on a cellular level. We need to address it by knowing that we provide proper care in giving it adequate hydration. Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day to keep our skin well-hydrated and keep it from free radicals. 

  1. Use topical sunscreen. The use of topical sunscreen keeps our skin protected from the Sun's harmful rays. Even inside our homes, we need to choose products and moisturizers with sun protection. It helps protect our skin from drying and signs of premature aging. 

  1. Avoid direct, prolonged sun exposure. The Sun is the most harmful element contributing to our skin's premature aging. Limit your sun exposure when you are outside, especially between 10:00 am until 4:00 pm when the UV rays are strongest. Always make sure to bring with you an umbrella with enough UV protection that could shield your skin from the Sun's harmful rays. 

  2. Maintain a religious skincare routine. This part is where it gets tricky. Each of us has unique skin characteristics, making it harder to build a skincare routine that will work for us. Make sure to identify first what type of skin you have to know which products you will use. This process is also a hit-and-miss since not all products are the same. It is best to consult a dermatologist, especially if you have acne-prone skin. 

  3. Take supplements for skincare. We cannot maintain healthy skin if we do not treat it from within, no matter the number of topical lotions, serums, and creams we apply to it. We need to treat it internally as well as it will help us maintain the balance and prevent the recurrence of dark spots in our skin which is quite challenging to manage if we only use topical treatment alone.
