Fashion, Education and Environmental Summit 2016; What To Expect

Two Sundays ago, I was privileged enough to be invited to a talk with two persons who made a huge contribution to the fashion industry Dr. Lilia Digna Rosales, the returning president of Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP) and Dr. Dante Guevarra, a great educator for three decades and former PUP President.

Dr. Lilia Digna Rosales
Three decades ago, our country has been given recognition in the field of fashion because of the talents of our designers. We were once called the fashion capital of Asia. The Philippine government and former first lady, Imelda Marcos, then supported it. They are at par with the global designers with their tasteful products.

In partnership with the Filipino Heritage Festival, Inc. and SM Megamall, Metamorphosis featured various pieces made by Filipino designers. Designers participated in the fashion show and others in the exhibit, which was held last May 22. In relation to the global environmental problem we are currently facing, they created an event wherein they showcase the talents of young designers which is to create fashion piece out of indigenous materials. It is a way to promote that garbage may be transformed into something new with the aid of one’s creativity.

"Do not imitate! Be a Filipino fashion designer that uses Filipino materials."- Dr. Lilia Digna Rosales

Now that fashion industry is currently in bad shape, Dr. Lilia Digna aims to bring back and showcase the talents of young aspiring fashion designers so that we can make a mark globally and at the same time addressing environmental issues. She also aims to support every Filipino by providing more jobs to the industry. The association also has more plans in the next months to come. They will also help those who aspire to become fashion designers someday and have limited resources. It is now their aim to revive the fashion industry of our country.

Dr. Dante Guevarra
Dr. Dante Guevarra, speaks his thoughts on the current education system of our country. According to him, our education system needs an overhaul because a lot of subjects are really not necessary. Our educators should focus on what is really needed. Professors should persuade students to learn not the other way around.

K-12 was supposed to be implemented long ago, but so many issues were addressed. Now that it has been implemented, we can now expect global standards. It will now help channel the students’ potential and their abilities be put into right perspective. The schools should also provide them proper guidance on what they will choose for them to maximize their talents especially to those who will enter senior high school.

Learn the many ways on how to maximize wastes to help us save the environment. Through the summit, we can promote care for our environment and share the responsibility towards global change.
